Triage & Work
Custom views for every assignable item
Getting a bird’s-eye view across every to-do for you, your clients, and your teams is now much easier with the new Assignments feature.
It brings every assignable item (including tasks, emails, notes, client requests, eSignatures, approvals, StanfordTax tasks and integration tasks) into a centralized area. You can then filter by assignee, client, task role, queue positions, or key deadlines to assess workloads.
Get straight in with pre-populated views “Assigned by me”, “Assigned to me” using filters for yourself or share with your team so everyone knows what’s theirs and what’s next.

Engagements
See exactly what your clients will see, before and after sending
You can now preview an engagement in its final client-facing format at any point, during the setup of an engagement template or an actual engagement, before sending, or after acceptance. If a client questions what was agreed, the postview gives you a reliable record of exactly what they signed.

Engagements will be available to all Karbon customers on October 5th. Learn more about Engagements in the Help Center.
Engage and onboard clients fast with templates and bulk-creation
Send client-ready engagements is faster than ever with reusable templates and the ability to bulk-create drafts from contact segments.
:format(jpeg))
Here’s what you can do:
Build engagement templates for repeatable services: Create an engagement template for standard, repeatable work such as an individual tax return, so every engagement on that workflow goes out fast and consistent.
Bulk-create from a segment: Select a Contacts segment, or your full client list, and create a draft engagement for every client in one action instead of building each one by hand.
Apply a template to the batch: Turn hundreds of clicks into a few by applying a template across the whole bulk-create batch.

Billing & Payments
Take payments on client accounts using Karbon Payments
Payments on Account is now available to give you a way to collect money upfront, hold it as credit on a client's account, and apply it to invoices when they're ready.
:format(jpeg))
Here's what you can do:
Collect a deposit or an advance payment at engagement signing, then draw down the credit balance as invoices are raised throughout the year
Set up manual, monthly payment plans by collecting a fixed amount each month and applying the accumulated credit to a year-end invoice
Accept partial payments when a client can't pay in full, and carry the remaining balance forward on the invoice
Take payment with no invoice attached using a standalone payment link, and hold it on account until needed
Record payments made outside Karbon Payments such as checks, wire transfers, or Zelle, and apply that credit in Karbon like any other payment
Payments on Account are available via Karbon Payments or as a manually recorded payment. Credit sits in Accounts Receivable as a negative balance until applied to an invoice.

More controls over invoice detail requirements
Karbon now lets you decide which client details are required for an invoice to be sent or posted. It also shows you exactly which invoices are the problem when something's missing.
You can turn off the client address requirement entirely, so invoices for clients without a billing address are no longer blocked.
:format(jpeg))
Invoices for clients missing a billing email now surface as "Approved (Missing Email)" so you can see the issue at a glance, post them individually, or add the email before running a bulk send. If your firm does require an address, Karbon prevents it from being removed from any client with an active engagement or recurring billing plan.

Search your billing runs
The billing runs are now searchable. If your firm keeps a lot of billing runs open, you can type to find the one you want instead of scrolling the full list every time you add an invoice.
Time & Budgets
Set how role and task type prefill on time entries
Role and task type used to prefill from your last time entry anywhere in Karbon, which caused corrections whenever staff switched between clients or work types.
Admins can now set the firm's prefill behaviour in Time entry preferences, and it applies consistently across the Time screen, work items, and Triage.
:format(jpeg))
Five options are available: pull from the last entry on that specific work item, pull from the work item's budget line, use the most recent entry anywhere in Karbon (the previous default), leave the fields blank, or use Smart prefill, which works down that list automatically until it finds a match.
Close Automation
Run account checks on a cash or accrual basis
Account checks can now run on cash basis or accrual basis, so a cash-basis client's balance and variance alerts are measured against the numbers they actually report on. When building a check that looks at accounts, choose the accounting method that fits the client — accrual remains the default and existing checks are unchanged. Available at both client and firm template level.
Exclude credit card spend from the W-9 check
The W-9 check now gives firms the option to exclude credit card spend by the account it was paid from. Turn on 'Exclude transactions from Credit Card accounts' in the W-9 check settings to stop card spend triggering the alert. A second option, which appears when the first is on, also removes those transactions from the vendor's Spent YTD total and drilldown. Both are off by default, so nothing changes until you choose and both can be applied at the firm template level, so you set your policy once.
Integrations & API
Canadian accounting firms can now centralize client payroll alongside all other client work, eliminating the need to manually track separate payroll deadlines or check multiple systems. Once connected, Karbon automatically generates payroll work items with calculated due dates at the start of each pay cycle and updates task statuses in real time as payroll is processed, saving your team valuable time and ensuring no critical deadlines slip through the cracks.
