About this template
This is Karbon's best practice template for individual tax returns (1040) and estates/trusts (1041). It provides the end-to-end process to support an individual tax return for a walk-in client, new client, and/or a more complicated return.
To use with Karbon, set the work type to be either 'Tax: 1040' or 'Tax: 1041' (based on the form used), then review and simplify to your own firm's unique tax preparation method of delivery.
This template has two sections at the top of the workflow that allow you to manage the extension process, if needed. Please ensure 'Extension Needed' and 'Extension Filed' are added as In Progress work statuses and enable those work statuses for the applicable work types (e.g. 1040 and 1041) to take advantage of this.
The template is set to kick-off, complete, file and confirm with the client within 4 weeks (barring client slow down or internal issues).
The automators within the workflow will update the task due dates, change statuses of both the tasks and work, and move the assignment of the work automatically based on the completion of the sections themselves.
