Digits closes the books. Karbon runs the practice. Together, we close the loop.

What happens when your ledger and your practice management system talk? See inside the Karbon Digits integration and the gap it closes between your ledger and your firm.

Over my two decades working alongside accounting firms, I’ve seen the same structural gap repeat itself regardless of firm size, geography, or service model. The accounting work happens in one place. The coordination of that work happens somewhere else entirely. And the distance between those two systems is where time, visibility, and efficiency disappear.
When we founded Karbon, we designed it around a specific conviction: practice management isn’t a standalone product. It’s the connective layer of your firm, the system that brings your tools, your team, and your client work into one coherent operation. That means being intentional about every partnership we build.
Digits, the world’s first AI-native general ledger, is the latest partner to reflect that. It connects the accounting foundation underneath your work to the operational system where your team coordinates it. When those two layers work together, you close a gap that has been costing firms more than most people recognize.
Here is what to expect from the Karbon and Digits partnership.
The problem with two separate systems
Every client engagement involves deadlines, client requests, team capacity, and deliverables. That coordination is what practice management is built for. But when your accounting practice management system and your ledger don't talk, visibility into the actual state of the work is incomplete.
Your team loses time switching between tools, manually entering data, and checking on things that should be visible automatically.
Melisa Gaetani, CPA, CA runs a 20+ person firm Tino-Gaetani & Carusi CPAs based in Canada. As part of her contribution to our Future of Accounting ebook, Melisa outlined a need for a connected ecosystem of tools that practices around the globe can truly rely on.
“The firm ecosystem of the future will run on an integrated platform that blends AI, workflow intelligence, and real-time client dashboards,” she explains. “Instead of separate tools patched together, firms will have seamless platforms where compliance, advisory, and analytics converge.”
The Karbon and Digits integration is solving exactly for what Melisa and thousands of other public accounting professionals crave.
Bringing the accounting foundation into view
We're partnering with Digits to deliver an integration that will enable your systems to work together instead of in parallel.
First, client sync. Every client you service in Digits will become a client record in Karbon, without re-entering the same client into two systems or managing two drifting client lists. One book of clients across both systems.
Second, real-time workflow visibility. A client's period close in Digits will trigger the creation of a matching engagement in Karbon automatically. As your team works on that close, their progress surfaces inside Karbon without anyone having to check a separate system. Your team sees it all where they're already working.
Third, for firms using Digits for their own accounting, invoice, and payment sync. Every invoice you bill out of Karbon will show up automatically in your Digits books as accounts receivable. When a client pays through Karbon, that payment lands in Digits and clears the receivable.
Part of a larger vision
Our research shows that accounting firms use, on average, around 14 different technology tools, ranging from 9 at smaller firms to as many as 20 at larger ones.
This integration is not just about patching two of those tools together. It reflects a bigger idea that your practice management system should sit closer to your accounting foundation. You deserve tools that perform their functions well and do it together.
Karbon has grown its connected ecosystem to over 80 integrations (and counting) to give you the interconnectedness to reach higher levels of productivity and profitability. That means no data loss, no double entry, and no unnecessary manual work. Your processes, tools, and data are successfully integrated so your business doesn't grind to a halt when someone moves on or you struggle to fill a role.
The Digits partnership is part of that commitment. We're not trying to do everything. Rather, we're trying to help you build a stack where the best-in-breed tools work as one system, your team focuses on delivering an exceptional service to your clients, and you focus on growing your firm.
What's next
This integration will be first realized with an initial release of the client sync. This will be immediately followed by workflow visibility and invoice sync. As it develops, the possibilities will expand to give you faster closes, cleaner workflows, and more time for your team to do the work that actually grows your firm.
That's the direction we're heading—an AI practice management system that's not just coordinated, but truly connected to the accounting work underneath it.
